Our teacher, Glenn E. Hopkins, BS, MFA, is a California State Certified LAUSD adult teacher with over 25 years of experience teaching American English to foreign-born adults. You are invited to check the reference materials mentioned at the side.

Accent reduction: This popular tutoring option is arranged privately through the Mootney Studio. Usually problem areas can be pin-pointed and corrected with four weekly meetings. Call (310) 478-7379.

Conversation: It is absolutely necessary that you learn to apply the grammar and vocabulary with which you've filled your head, and which you are longing to use. WESTSIDE ADULT SCHOOL (at University High in West L.A.) pays our teacher to offer a FREE CONVERSATION CLASS with students from all over the world participating. Come and be part of that group which usually uses advice columns and the news as a starting off point.. Registration is required but free: Monday and Wednesday, 4:30 pm. Call (310) 477-2084 for updated details.

Intermediate-high English as a second language: Here, again, the city pays the teacher, and you attend for free. Commonly evening classes are taught for levels one through six. The Hopkins class we recommend is level 4, intermediate-high. Call (310) 477-2084.

Volunteers needed: Interested in a career teaching English, including travel abroad? Come volunteer mornings for tutoring and student teaching opportunities at the West Los Angeles Job Center, Exposition at Sawtelle, West Los Angeles. Sometimes homeless and barely literate in Spanish, sometimes displaced lawyers and engineers, the jornaleros (day workers who are waiting for their name to be pulled from the "next-worker" raffle) receive free instruction from master teacher Glenn Hopkins, working for LAUSD. We often need volunteer tutors who can tutor one or more students who are way above or way below the current majority in the class. The ability level of the students varies from day to day, hour to hour. Call (310) 478-7379 for more information about setting up your own schedule once a week for an hour or more, twice a week, once a month...whatever suits your inclination.
